Squam Lakes Association Presents: Bug Photo Safari

  • Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest (map)

Join the Squam Lakes Association on July 27th from 1-5:00PM for a Bug Photo Safari at Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest. Wildlife watchers are often on the lookout for bears, moose, and birds, but did you know that the average visible organism is smaller than a human finger? Insects make up around 80% of all animal species, but often go overlooked as we explore and image the natural world. Visit the forest any time during this program and pick up a fun, self-paced scavenger hunt to enjoy while you walk! This program will help you discover the small but diverse and fascinating world of bugs, and bring your phone or camera to learn how to get great photos of these charismatic mini-fauna! Lakes Region Conservation Corps members will be present to answer your questions, whether about the bugs you find in the forest or about tiny creatures in general.

Participants should be prepared for warm weather. You will not need a fancy camera - a cell phone’s camera is just fine! While the program is geared toward phone camera users, those with digital cameras and macro lenses are welcome as well.

For more information, or to sign up for this Adventure Ecology, visit the SLA website (squamlakes.org) or contact the SLA directly (603-968-7336). The Adventure Ecology programs are presented by the LRCC AmeriCorps members at the SLA who perform important conservation work in support of the Association’s mission.
