Winter Solstice Soirée
It’s time to celebrate the winter solstice, Conservancy style!
The winter solstice marks the shortest day of the year. Say farewell to the longest evening of darkness, and light up the night with The Nature Conservancy in New Hampshire.
Join us on Thursday, December 19, at our new offices located inside The Hotel Concord in Concord, New Hampshire, for what has become a much-anticipated yearly gathering of friends, food and fun.
Drop-in any time between 4 and 7 p.m. for drinks, light appetizers and holiday cheer. We’re thrilled to invite you to visit our new office, celebrate partnership, mingle with other nature lovers and celebrate the season!
The evening is open-house style and free (Your first drink is on us, then cash bar). While not required, we welcome your RSVP. Please let us know you’re coming. We look forward to celebrating with you!
A note about parking: Being located in the heart of downtown, TNC does not have any private or designated parking. Street parking is available on Main Street in Concord. Additionally, there are parking garages located nearby, including the Capital Commons Garage at 75 Storrs Street (located directly behind The Hotel Concord). FIS Freestyle World Cup & Rock City at Waterville Valley Resort
Rock City is an exciting addition to the 2025 FIS Freestyle World Cup, hosted by Waterville Valley Resort on January 24-25, 2025. Last Skier Standing
The sixth edition of the Last Skier Standing, hosted by White Mountain Ski Co, will take place the weekend of February 7th at Black Mountain of Maine in Rumford. Athletes will skin up and ski down Black Mountain once per hour until they simply cannot ski anymore. The last skier standing wins! The weekend will feature events for spectators to enjoy. Granite Backcountry Film Festival
Come get stoked for the season! Kick back to some backcountry-specific ski films while enjoying one of Ledge's tasty brews. To top it off, we're going to be giving away some sweet stuff in a raffle. Proceeds of the event will help GBA maintain existing terrain and open up new zones - meaning there are more places for us all to ski!

Last Nordic Skier Standing
Last Nordic Skier Standing (January 31, 2025): The first edition of Last Nordic Skier Standing will be hosted by White Mountain Ski Co. and Jackson Ski Touring Foundation at the Jackson XC Nordic Center. Winter is Coming to Squam Lake
Come join Lakes region Conservation Corps members Peter and Meg for their final Adventure Ecology program of the year! This program will take place Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest on November 19th from 1–4 PM. We will be taking a short walk through the late autumn forest to one of the SLA’s campsites, where we will gather around and get warm with a fire. On this program we will learn about what happens to our watershed in the winter. Coffee, tea, and hot cocoa will be provided.
Participants are encouraged to bring enough food and water for the duration of this program. The weather this time of year can change very quickly so we encourage participants to wear/bring extra layers. We will be sitting for most of this program so bringing a small camp chair or sit pads are recommended, but not required. The SLA can provide sit pads for those who need one.

Join LRCC member Meg on October 22nd from 7-9PM at the Squam Lakes Association for a bat filled evening as we celebrate Bat Week. This program will have education opportunities and activities for all ages, participants are welcome to drop in at any time during the evening and stay for as long as they would like. Come learn about bats in our watershed and how you can protect them during the spooky season and year round. If you are new to the bat loving world or are a returning advocate you are welcome to come and learn or share your knowledge on the world's only flying mammals.

AMC Lancaster Work Days
Join us on October 19 or 26 (or both!) fun day of trail work in the town of Lancaster! The project will be installing bog bridges on the Heritage Trail between Reed Road by Weeks State Park and RT 2 near downtown Lancaster. Anyone is welcome, and no prior trails experience is needed. Participants under 18 are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Appalachian Mountain Club will provide trail work instruction, all tools and personal protective equipment. Please wear long pants and boots and bring your own food and water. The day will run from 9am-3pm. Participants will meet on Reed Road in Lancaster. More details will be provided closer to the event. SLA Fall Canoe Paddle
SLA for a Fall Canoe Paddle
Come join Lakes Region Conservation Corps members Meg and Em on a canoe guided adventure on Squam Lake October 18th from 9-1PM. This program is open to all ages and experience levels. We will set out from the SLA and paddle to Bowman Island where we will relax, have some warm beverages, and eat lunch. We will take time to view the beautiful fall colors from the mountains around us and breathe in the fall vibes. We will take the 4-mile paddle round-trip at a steady pace. Before heading out we will take time to teach people how to paddle and be comfortable in their boats.
Participants are strongly encouraged to bring and wear warm layers, paddling can warm you up, but the weather can change quickly and we want you to be prepared. Please bring enough water for the duration of the program as well as any food you might want. We will be taking a break for lunch, so food and snacks are encouraged for during and after. Sandals or water shoes are also encouraged but not required. You are also welcome to bring your own thermos or sealed cup for warm beverages, but cups will be provided.

Business Engagement Strategies for Communities
Businesses are a key part of any community, bringing jobs, services, and growth. Since 2015, UNH Extension has looked to support communities through our Business Retention and Engagement (BR&E) program which helps communities better understand local businesses and identify ways to help them thrive. As we look forward to relaunching Extension’s program under the new name, Community Business Engagement (CBE) Program, we will be hosting an online discussion about different strategies that communities can use to engage and support their business communities. Join us , and previous BR&E participants, Sean Clancy, Portsmouth Assistant City Manager for Economic & Community Development, and Jennifer Beck, Chair of the Wilton Economic Development Team as they share their experiences and talk about the importance of engaging their community businesses!
2024 Congressional Debate
Join us for our upcoming 2024 Congressional Debate to hear Congressman Pappas and Congressional Candidate Russell Prescott discuss key national and local issues, including healthcare, housing, energy, the economy and public policy. In our Chamber’s roles as a convener and educational resource, our debate programs aim to connect the business community to the candidates in a constructive high-quality debate. You will learn where each candidate stands and how they plan to represent your community in Congress. Each attendee will leave informed about how to make your own voice count in the upcoming election.
These events often do sell out, so please do register early.

Campaign supporters/sign holders can stand on the public sidewalk but cannot obstruct the pedestrian flow. Groups forming on campus property will be asked to leave. Groups forming on city streets or other public areas may be asked to leave by the Goffstown Police Department.
Saint Anselm College has a strict NO SIGNS and/or Campaign material distribution on Saint Anselm College property policy. This includes signs and banners on campus buildings.
Saint Anselm College Safety and Security and local law enforcement will be on site to ensure there are no sign holders on NH Institute of Politics/ Saint Anselm College campus property.

Reading the Forest Landscape with Squam Lakes Association
Read the Forested Landscape with SLA
Join the Squam Lakes Association’s Lakes Region Conservation Corps member Meg as we take a walk back in time at Five Finger Point on October 15th 10-3PM. Using the book Reading the Forested Landscape: A Natural History of New England by Tom Wessels, we will have a beautiful fall hike on the moderately difficult 2.7-mile loop trail, and stop at different spots to talk about the history of the land and passages from the book.
Parking is limited at Five Finger Point, so we encourage participants to arrive at the SLA campus at 9:20 so we can carpool to the trailhead.
Participants are encouraged to bring and wear appropriate attire, including appropriate footwear that you don’t mind getting dirty. You should also bring enough food and water for the duration of the program; there will be a break for lunch, during which we will stop to sit and read a chapter from the book. If participants have a copy of this book, they are more than welcome to bring it along!

Mount Washington Observatory Founding Day
Join us on the summit of Mount Washington this October 15, 2024 for our Founding Day. We’ll have free tours and an Open House at our world famous mountaintop weather station in the Sherman Adams Visitor Center, at Mount Washington State Park from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.! Mount Washington Observatory staff and volunteers will be available for a behind-the-scenes look at the weather station, where visitors will also have the opportunity to talk to a weather observer, climb the instrument tower, and learn about the history of the organization with MWOBS curator Dr. Peter Crane. (Light refreshments will be served, no reservation required. Visitors will need to ride the Mount Washington Cog Railway or drive the Mt. Washington Auto Road to reach the summit– see associated rates for transport. Or hike! Keep an eye on our summit forecast.)

NHEE 2024 Explore with a Naturalist Fall Series
Visit Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest (HBEF) to learn about one of the longest running and most comprehensive ecosystem studies in the world. On this tour explore various topics, including how forests are monitored and measured, ongoing research themes and experiments, climate trends and threats, and the value of forests for human society.

Maple Villa Glade Day
Join Granite Backcountry Alliance for a volunteer glade day at Maple Villa in Intervale, NH. We’ll tidy up the glades to get ready for winter and then tailgate with drinks and food provided by GBA and supporting local businesses!
Take a Kid Mountain Biking
October 5 is national Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, so get out there with your kids, or take someone else's kids (with their permission of course) and get out and ride our trails.
From Bike the North Country: There's a fantastic pump track in Littleton at PRKR MTN for beginners, or anyone trying to improve their skills, and all three networks (Franconia, Littleton and Bethlehem) have trails for all skill levels.
And if you need to borrow a bike and helmet, check out the Bethlehem Gear Library. Just get the kids out there riding on October 5!

In collaboration with Mayor Ruais, the Greater Manchester Chamber is hosting a new forum, Future-Focus Manchester. These sessions are aimed to shed light on the critical preparedness steps Manchester is taking, and needs to pursue, to be able to accommodate the anticipated growth. Each forum will focus on a specific topic related to urban development, including zoning, housing, education, childcare, first responders, homelessness, transportation and infrastructure. This focused approach will allow the opportunity to review the related planning and mobilization in more depth and hear insight from the business community.
In the first Future-Focus Manchester taking place on October 1st from 7:30-9am at the Rex Theatre, Mayor Ruais and Director of Planning & Community Development Jeffrey Belanger will discuss a recent hot topic and how it will impact the future: Manchester's Zoning Amendments. Please join us for part-presentation, part-conversation at this gathering where the audience will have the opportunity to ask direct questions.
All community members are welcome to attend at no cost but registration is required.
Trail Work at Green Hills Preserve
Join The Nature Conservancy in New Hampshire and AMC youth corps trail crew to help with trail construction at our Green Hills Preserve!
Volunteers will be working closely with the AMC youth corps trail crew to help restore and improve section of trails on Middle Mt., Black Cap connector and Peaked and Middle connector. All volunteers are welcome and no prior experience is required. We'll walk volunteers through how to use trail tools to complete whatever project we're working on.

Youth Instructions
Youth volunteers ages 16-18 are welcome to attend independently, but will need a waiver completed by a parent/guardian in advance of the event.
