Building a Bog Bridge Clinic

Meet at 12:00pm on September 30 at the Dow Field in Franconia.

Bog bridges are an essential tool for land managers to minimize the impact of outdoor recreation on natural landscapes – especially in slow draining or muddy areas. Join the Appalachian Mountain Club’s trails department for a clinic on how to build bog bridges using hand tools like the cross cut saw, chisels, and more. Over the course of this 1.5 hour clinic, participants will learn more about the structural considerations of building bog bridges, the hand tools needed to produce them, safety considerations during construction, and how to use this techniques to build your very own bridges or backyard benches.

What to bring/wear: Closed toed shoes are required to participate. AMC will have shared gloves and eye protection on site for participates to borrow.

This clinic will be led by Erik Samia, Trails Training Programs and Facility Supervisor for the Appalachian Mountain Club. Erik has been working in conservation and trails since 2012 and is based at AMC’s Camp Dodge Trails Training Center in Pinkham Notch.
